Having taken leave of the Company, and being duly provided with everything we needed, we put to sea from Gravesend on the 25th of March. After many various incidents, we arrived on the 20th of December following at the roadstead of Bantam, with our crew very weak. We greeted the Dutch with our heavy artillery, and they answered us in the same manner. On the last day of December, the Dutch General came aboard our ship and had dinner with our General. The day after, on the 1st of January 1605, our General went ashore with a letter from his Royal Majesty of England to the King of Bantam, along with a gift for the same. He received it with great solemnity, being only 13 years old and ruled by a Protector. On the 16th ditto, our General came from Bantam back on board to continue his voyage to the Moluccas, and ordered Mr. Sufflet to return home with the ship Hector.
