Veranula.
land of Veranula. The inhabitants of this land held a deadly hatred toward the Portuguese, and consequently requested the help of the Dutch against them, with the promise that they would be submissive to them if they drove out the Portuguese. Upon this, the Dutch came to attack the fort of Amboyna, and the Portuguese put themselves in a position to defend it. The former sought to win it and the latter to keep it. The Dutch demanded it in the name of the Prince of Orange, to be surrendered on that same day by 2 o'clock, which the Portuguese refused. But after several attacks had been made upon it, it was finally surrendered by agreement, after which the Governor of the city, on the order of the Dutch, forbade us all trade there.

Meanwhile, the war continued between those of Ternate and those of Tydor, the former helped by the Dutch and the latter by the Portuguese. Around that time, we reached the
Tydor.
land of Tydor, and were sighted between Pulocanally and Tydor by 2 galleys from Ternate, which came toward us as quickly as they could, and by hoisting a white flag, made a sign that we should strike our sails and wait for them. At that same time, 7 galleys from Tydor came rowing between us and the land, to attack the Ternateans. Our General, seeing the danger the Ternateans were in, turned his ship leeward to see what was to be done. In the foremost of those 2 galleys or carocora’s a type of light outrigger boat was the King of Ternate with many of his nobles, and with them 3 Dutch merchants, who were in no small fear. They begged our General for God’s sake to take them over and save them from their enemies, the Tydorians, from whom they had no mercy to expect if he did not come to their aid.
