Letter of the King of Tydor to the King of England.
This writing of the King of Tydor to the King of England serves to let Your Highness know that the King of Holland has sent a fleet of ships to these regions to join our old enemy, the King of Ternate, who then, with their combined power, have overrun and plundered a portion of our land and have resolved to destroy us and our subjects. And as we have understood through the bearer of this, Captain Hendrik Middleton, that Your Highness lives in friendship with the King of Spain, we request Your Majesty to have pity on us, so that we may not be ruined by the King of Holland and Ternate, as we have not wronged them, but they seek to rob us of our Kingdom through violent means. And as great Kings are ordained by God on earth to come to the aid of all those who are oppressed by injustice, I request Your Majesty’s help against my enemies, not doubting that I shall be helped by the intervention of Your Majesty: and if Your Majesty sends here, I humbly request that it may be Captain Hendrik Middleton or his brother, as I already know them. May God expand your Kingdoms and bless you and all your counsels.
