weekly laborers freedom to amuse themselves on land with me. Walking far and wide, we found no more than four or five fields sown with rice, as the ground here is generally hard, rocky soil. At that time, we had fine weather here for the first time. The 17th was likewise fine weather all day. I gave orders to make lime juice. On the 20th, Johan Rogers returned and brought me a gift of a piece of gold that had the shape of a half-moon and was judged to be worth five, six, or seven shillings sterling. I have never, while here on the roadstead, taken a sun sight, although I had intended to do so more than once there or on land.
