Factory there
On the 13th of November, the Thomas departed for Bantam; but I, Georg Piborn, Johan Perce, and my mate Pieter remained there. We had much trouble with this uncivilized people but held strictly to the letter of the King of Achen.
Uproar at Tecoo.
On the 9th of May, 1616, a great uproar arose because a man from Achen struck a woman at Tecoo who had scolded him. He was fined 4 Tayles a unit of weight/currency, which he refused to pay, whereupon the next day 100 men rose up to capture him, but in vain, for 200 Achiners banded together and drove back the Tecoërs, during which 1 remained dead and 6 were wounded. These 200 fortified themselves in a nearby place to hold out against those of Tecoo, and they claimed that the King of Achen would have their legs cut off if they let themselves be overcome by the local people.
How quelled.
Through this incident (for all the King's servants here are Achiners who do not wish to be affronted), there was fear among one and the other. But the discord was settled provided that the Achiner Loose Gee gave a certain sum of money.
On the 11th of June, the Expedition arrived from Priaman.
Punishment for theft.
On the 2nd of July, a certain man had both his hands cut off for theft, whom one did not see crying once while enduring that punishment.
Mutiny on Captain Peyton’s ship.
On the 13th ditto, Captain Peyton let me know that he feared mutiny from his men, and that they would run away with the ship, as they had already attempted to do once at Bantam. His request was that I would take some of those fellows ashore and keep them with me, so that the conspiring malcontents might be somewhat separated from one another.
Two ships, with freedom from the King.
On the 26th, the ships the Draak Dragon, on which Captain William Keeling was General, and the Peper-corn Peppercorn, on which Harris was Captain, arrived here in the roadstead; they had been with the King...
