A highly detailed nautical chart in the portolan style displays coastlines from Northeast Africa and the Red Sea to the Bay of Bengal and the Malay Peninsula. The map features rhumb lines originating from a large, ornate compass rose in the lower center. A large sea monster, possibly a whale, and a European sailing vessel appear in the lower right quadrant. Ornate decorative cartouches in the upper right contain Latin and Dutch descriptions of the map's contents and authorship. Major landmasses include the Arabian Peninsula, Persia, and the Indian subcontinent.
This table delineates the maritime coasts of Abyssinia, the Strait of Mecca, also known as the Red Sea; Arabia, Hormuz, Persia, up to the Ganges Gulf, the Indus and Ganges rivers, and all of India, within and beyond the Ganges, etc. Everything is presented as it has been observed and surveyed by those who traverse these coasts annually, as found most accurately delineated in Portuguese hydrographic charts.
