V. From the three aforementioned principles, God formed two other principles: namely, the seed of nature and the Menstruum a solvent or dissolving fluid of the world. Just as they retain the properties of the previous ones, they also retain their names, namely Sulfur and Mercury. However, besides the aforementioned properties, they have received new properties because of their new temperament. For the Sulfur, which was previously warming, has become coagulating and fixing through the mixture of Salt, and is therefore called lebendiger Schwefel living sulfur by the philosophers. The Mercury, however, which was previously cold from the salt, has now become warm, moist, and better directed, which is why it is also called lebendiger Mercur living mercury. The special properties of living sulfur are:
