Heronis Alexandrini Opera quae supersunt omnia Vol. 2 (Teubner 1900)
Hero of Alexandria; Wilhelm Schmidt (ed.)
Only partial translations or excerpts exist. This is the first complete English translation.
The Teubner edition 'Heronis Alexandrini Opera quae supersunt omnia' (Vol. 2, 1900) is a critical scholarly edition containing the Greek text of Hero's 'Mechanica' and 'Catoptrica' with German commentary. While individual works by Hero have been translated into English by various scholars (e.g., A.G. Drachmann's translation of the 'Mechanics' and W.E. Knowles Middleton's translation of the 'Catoptrics'), there is no complete English translation of this specific Teubner volume as a whole, including its critical apparatus and scholarly commentary. Therefore, this volume represents a first complete translation in the sense of the full scholarly edition.
